Party Like It's 1999

No, they were too small to be doing their partying like this in 1999 [I assume]. That's from a song title lol

The stage setup I discovered yesterday was a one-night stand, like the Royal Animals and the Holy Family. It's all gone today. But I met up with Dirk, who changed his name from Dick because he travels to NYC and Florida next April, and thought everybody in America would laugh at him when he said, "Hello, I'm from Holland and my name is Dick". Dirk let me in to take some party shots in the evening. The closed party was for 81 new Citizen / Subjects of the Kingdom who just got sworn in -- naturalized, we'd say over there -- at a ceremony during the afternoon. There was a backup band for a trio of grrl singers who really kicked ass, the speakers were so loud I couldn't tell what language it was -- but of course nobody cared.

This is the rig across the upstage bridge [rear of the stage]. The stacks of six lights are fixed and the little squat ones are "intelligent" lights driven by a computer-controlled set of motors so they can change focus and color according to a program written by the designer. Sounds complex but most rock lighting on this scale is done with a sledgehammer approach, rather than a rapier one, so it's simple:

Further down toward the front of the stage, those are speaker stacks made out of six individual units apiece:

At night, the outline reflection of the twelve-story tree is still cool, and the side balcony rails of the City Hall looked like this, to light up the new citizens and their guests:

And, in full swing. I think I caught a couple of new Jewish citizens in yarmulkes [small headcoverings worn by Jewish boys and men], they're at the L of the picture, one is quite tall:

And a closer look at the front light bridge: I loved how the reflections underlighted the silver pipes in blue. The lights that are NOT on are all hot pink but I couldn't catch them on during the short time I had. The slogan in Dutch is BURGERSCHAP SAMEN STAD ZIJN which means "Integration Makes Us All The Same City" ... or close lol.

-I- would not laugh if he told me his name was Dick. But that's just me. He said, "You know, like Dick Cheney." THEN I laughed. I told him not to say anything like that in America even if by next April our current Vice-Pres will be history.

I mentioned that Dirk is an old English word for dagger, he hadn't known that. Thusly did I talk my way into the paaaaaaarty.

Citizenship party, eh?

One day some year, I will be an invited guest. Maybe I will find a Royal Dutch Princess to dance with me.

I would dance with you :) But I'm hardly royal, or the sort to be invited by royalty, although I might be a little Dutch?
I'd also never laugh at someone whose name is Dick, but I grew up with an Uncle Dick so perhaps I'm an anomaly.

Well, here's the plan: I'll get promoted to membership in the Royal Family and send a KLM jet to fetch you and pledge to dance with nobody else..... so there's your invite and I will tell my adopted Queen that you might be or *ARE* a little Dutch; to really win her over can we stick a little Dutch flag in your hair?

Whee! You can try putting a flag in my hair if you think it will stay put :) I'll have to start learning the basics of speaking the local language... Just to help prove it

Erm ... they make elastic for everything these days lol... or maybe a guy wire or two? [soft fuzzy ones, maybe.]

Or for ease and convenience, we could bodypaint one on your forehead :P

And so far, sign language and body language are doing me just fine... in addition maybe to DANK JE WEL and AUSDEBLIEFT [thank you and you're welcome... for use in serious political or spiritual discussions with the Royal Family perhaps a bit more will be needed, especially if we step on any Royal Feet ;)
