you're missing half the show

Well, not *that* show, this one is "Stage Kiss", a pic from 2006. Everybody is different genders from what you think and how they look: three layers deep lol. Closed a while ago.

On Broadway there's another show. 34th and Broadway: running for 150 years and still going [more than any of us, I imagine :P]. Macy*s : one of the biggest dept stores in the world. Dozens of window displays, six of them animated picture windows, some on the Bway side of the store. This flagship store is nine stories tall, a city block wide and deep. Two city blocks, actually. Many of the windows display the words "a million reasons to Believe" .

These Bway windows are full of animated puppets designed in showbiz glittery colors. Theme this year is Santa's workshop, but it way transcends that. Legions of kids were staring and laughing in the rain last night, fascinated. That's one or a hundred of the gifts.

Each window has an inscription, here's a condensation:

In a realm far beyond
In the deep, still night
Lo, what glows there? Ah, Christmas lights.
How are they bright? Here's an insight:
Joy and Hope and materials that make them ethereal.
Just believe
and you will see
The very mystical, magical, and extraordinary...
Doubt has no place on this Winter's eve:
'Tis the season to believe...

See all those letters?
They're from kids who know
If you only trust what's visible
You're missing half the show.
The world is full of wonders, and fun, and mystery:
So ask yourself
How much do I believe in what I cannot see?

*** *** *** *** *** ***

If you only trust what's visible, I would say you're missing lots more than half. But perhaps that's just me XD

Anybody anywhere in the creative / performing arts munches hope for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. The act of creating art is believing in what nobody but you has seen yet, until you bring it to life for one other or millions, or somewhere in between.

But you don't have to be actively living in the arts. Creating the shape of your own life is something each of us does, sometimes well, other times badly, day turns to day turns to day. Writing in NaNoWriMo or writing here in LJ or any of the other sites. deviantArt. Where writing is posted as well as photo art.

Macy*s also has a model of the New Year's Eve crystal ball, inside on the firstfloor . It's seen by one billion people around the world as the last day of December turns to the first one of January, and it "falls" down a slide in Times Square. This year's redesign is by Waterford Crystal out of the UK and Philips Electric out of Holland YAY, full of changing colors with LED technology and fiber optics behind multitudes of crystal triangles.

And on the display board:

"...the crystal symbols signify second chances, new starts, powerful memories, and the promises of the future."

New starts and powerful memories. Spotlights grow from within them in my year this year ....

Of course in lots of places hope is in short supply. In the world, in your own life maybe. But the promise is for change. You don't have to measure the clock out and count the moments until January 1, eternity won't care.

There are a lot of people whose mortal clocks ended before 2009 started. Especially in Mumbai and in Africa and in the hunger war zones and in the terror war zones. Especially for the directors of Chabad House in Mumbai, 28 and 29, Jewish spiritual / community leaders, who were shot although their 2-year-old son escaped, spirited away by his nanny who never works on her day off but just *happened* to, that day.

But if you look into the eyes of the children far beyond those on 34th Street, or you look into the changing patterns on the crystal, you start to see more than half of the show.

In my life, I follow the light as it changes and shifts. It's damned hard sometimes, but it's worth it.
And my prayer and my hope is that it may be the same in your life too. Little by little, maybe, night turns to day turns to day turns to day.
