Reborn once more ....

Linda Bergkvist is a graphic artist and compositor from Sweden who creates a lot of fantasy work with a panache that is very photographic but with an ethereal, almost spiritual touch which is also very dark at times.

One of her favourite works has been viewed close to half-a-million times since she created it in July 2002: "Autumn Whisperlings" and "Closeup" are favourites of Kiota, she even adopted a crop of one of them as her default icon late in her life.

Today I traveled from Manhattan to Boston on the freeway and there were riots of colors dancing in the trees: reds, oranges, honey ambers, yellow golds, crimsons, maroons, even greens on the pines, whose needles have not yet dropped away to make room for new growth.

I immediately thought of Linda's comments:

"She is a creature of autumns -- alike the leaves that tumble unto the ground, she will wither and rot before the snow falls. What remains of her will become frozen. Seeds that bury themselves into the ground. Slowly grinding their way upwards through the dirt as Spring approaches -- and then, through the fullness of the summer, she will slowly spread her wings again as the flowers spread their petals. Set free only once the leaves fall, to joyously soar for a few weeks -- dancing along the dew-covered fields with her eyes shut and her head thrown back... and then falling, tumbling, dying.... rotting... reborn once more."

Ki had her fullness of summer this year, and she steals among the flames of her trees in this season too, even though she left us her mortal body in the cold and wet of last Spring's rains. So I'd like to think that these flights of renewal have attracted her also, just as much as they do in the lives of Linda's faery. As they did in so many of her posts to us, where this was the first thing we saw, from our girl for all seasons.

Others in Linda's gallery include "Into Your Eyes" [2005] and "Spoiled" [2006] --- both of which are dark masterpieces. In the first of these, you can hear the glass breaking and feel the blood spurting. A mirror with many faces and many tragedies.

Linda has had more than a million and a half pageviews since early 2002 and it is obvious why.

It is the Winter that dies so that Spring can live. So that Spring can be reborn too.

Yeah ... one of her many commenters says "your stuff is all over the internet!" and she's put prints on lots of walls all over the world.....

She builds so much precision and detail into her art, [like you do...]:) and on "Spoiled" she links to some of those closeups in her dA gallery notes, begging us to go look because "I spent so much time on it!"

Must have been great to meet her in person: was that overseas or here?

Jealousy is the sincerest form of flattery?

She and Ana Fagarazzi simply have intense and deep sharp vision. Yours is just as powerful but softer and thoroughly female.
[= Brad's two cents of art crit this morning!]

I just realized I forgot the one-year anniversary of Megan and David [two or three days ago] ... made them wedding presents of two of your prints which I framed and they hung over their bed. Maggie and Bear was one, The Hiding Place the other.

They flipped. They still do!

*goes to write them*

I knew you'd appreciate it too.

Thank you. Somehow, that is just what I needed to hear today.
