Kiota's Children / prelude

Kiota wants to talk for a minute [to give a background to my last post]:

This summer I hope to travel to Cambodia, to volunteer with children and do street/documentary photography. I plan to be there for 2 - 3 weeks, ten days of which I'll be taking part in a group volunteer program through United Planet. During that time I'll be spending most of the day volunteering with children ... when the program ends, I plan on staying in Cambodia awhile longer in order to continue volunteer work.

I am confident that the few weeks I spend in Cambodia will result in great benefit to the children I volunteer with, the people I photograph, and myself. Even just a couple weeks of volunteering can transform orphanages, inspire children to continue their education, get them off the streets and away from drugs and prostitution, and more. I plan to sell and exhibit my photography, and thus raise awareness of human rights abuses and the poverty in Cambodia. As for me -- I'm planning on pursuing a career in photography and social work, so this opportunity is perfect for me.

However, as I'm struggling to fund my college education and cannot fund this project on my own, I'm asking for help with donations or simply spreading the word.

....Thank you for your time.

This is part of an Email which she sent out on January 28 to 16 people: nine family members, seven others [including some of us.]

What Ki and I had planned together was to organize an exhibit at my theatre gallery in Austin, after she came back, and to present an evening of her experiences and her art, sometime in July or August. It would have been a "trial run" for her presentation at Evergreen for academic course credit this Fall.

The word is spread, and the joy; there will be more children to tell you about.

And the icon is a lighting study; it's one of her early photos.

And this time is all times.

I always hit "Leave a comment" and then realize that I'm speechless.
