Mien meets Anna

Actually, of course, they will never meet --- but Mien and several other kids just got taken off the streets for a longer time by Kiota. She is going to help them with English and lots of other stuff too. Just as she wanted to last January and March.

Yesterday afternoon I met with David, the founder of United Planet, in Boston. UP is the umbrella international charity that organizes and sponsors projects in 50 or sixty countries, Cambodia being one.

It took awhile, but UP finally was able to revise a local governing board involved with the orphanage she'd applied to teach in during late June. Their new proposal is to build more living space and teaching space for kids who have been abandoned by their parents and discarded, left to beg for food and sleep on the streets. Dirt streets.

David has been holding on to my contribution to sponsor Anna's trip, that I made last Spring. It was for the full program fee and her airfare over there. And other living expenses. A whole team of kids ended up going, I think 20 or so. Her spot was quickly filled, there was a waiting list.

The orphanage is now called the Imagine Foundation Children's Center and its SOP says "IFCC offers children, which would otherwise have few options in life, the opportunity to change their future. Through the stimulation of educational play, love, attention and compassion, IFCC cultivates dreams and helps children realize what would before only have been imagined. Volunteers will assist in the educational program as well as just providing attention, playtime, love and support for children who have not experienced those things in their lives so far."

Ki wrote an Email asking people to contribute for her trip and college photography project, last 30 January. I'll look it up and quote from it for you. The wording is almost the same.

Now UP is going to use Kiota's money through me. It will build a whole new building next to the present one and triple the number of kids they can house and love.

I was seated across David's desk from him and I said:

Anna is the reason I am sitting in this chair right now.

There was a chair next to me. It was empty. Only physically, of course.

He and I looked at it. We immediately understood.

Later today if all goes well I will be meeting Meowvatar. In real life, and two time zones away!! We connect on a lot of levels. The two of us would not be meeting at all, except also for Anna. And through her. Boy could our girl build bridges. *Can* build them.

Meow did such a great job with my pic of Lois that I'm going to bring a picture of Mien with me. Maybe we can scan it and we'll post it here so you can meet her too.

The last words Kiota ever said to me in real life were "Next time, I will come to you."

Well, 'next time' for me has now stretched into weeks and months and involved a lot of you. And it's stretched even around the world, and yesterday afternoon it stretched to money wired over to the kids she wants to help.

Anyone who can only remember Kiota in terms of blood and whoring and drug overdoses and despair and fractured mind and broken heart and the night of April 12 - 13 :: :: is not remembering all of her at all. Maybe not even the most important parts of her.

Especially her heart.

We are all blessed by her in some way or other. And the blessings keep coming around.

Gotta go catch my plane now. But I hardly need it to fly. I just went to Southeast Asia yesterday.

We all did.

I don't comment much, but I read your journal all the time, and I think it's absolutely amazing. Reading your journal and the things that you do have helped me cope with all of this so much. Thank you.

Thank you, Cru. You are one of the big reasons I write. I will never forget how many things you did for us in our early April and May mourning, while Ki's LJ was still here. Those posts are as fresh and inspiring as this one you just wrote.

I love all your comments, I do ---- and whenever, and if, you want to make them, I'm here.

I'd honestly be surprised if there are still people who can only remember her for the bad things in her life. I can only remember how she continually reached out to others through her own pain because she deemed theirs more important.

Will always make me proud to have known her.

Except that it's not past tense at all, for some....she just joined Meowvatar and me last night for awhile.

'Knowing' has so many dimensions and Kiota is so full of peace and love now, and totally without more suffering and pain, that what she is doing with us is just beyond words.
