Very Young Girls

This is the title of a new documentary film. It "indicts not only the direct exploiters but also a society that jails 15-year-old girls for prostitution." It's not only played Boston, it opens in New York on July 4 and the director is supposed to be in attendance at a time I can get there [since I'm in NYC atm.]

One of the reasons there are so many abused orphans in Cambodia is that the Khmer Rouge Communist governmental army killed hundreds of thousands of intellectuals and other non-communists ["The Killing Fields" was the movie about that, which was released in the West, and I believe it was Dr. Dith Prang who won some kind of Academy Award for it, some years ago.] So many parents were killed that a whole generation of orphans were created, they and their children turned to selling themselves for food / shelter / both, as the sole way they had to stay alive. Since I am now an official Team Member of United Planet, I realize even more vividly the need to expand the activities of the orphanage there. But obviously the Far East has no monopoly on raping kids [see Brooke and Kiota.]

Link to the current film is http://www.VYGTheMovie.com

Something like this is precisely what Kiota would have filmed and shot digipics of ---- kids on the streets and their stories ---- and presented in Austin and Olympia after she got back.....

Thank you for sharing "Very Young Girls". I'm going to make sure I watch it on July 4th.

Kiota is indeed remembered. It's everything she could have been. Or actually... Already is.

Yeah, I went down to IFC in person today, and scored a ticket for the evening showing on the Fourth when the director'll be there in person *crosses fingers*

A particularly apppaling segment apparetnly shows pimps planning to film their girls and then sell the footage to one of the Reality TV shows .... GAAAAAAAAAH
