So we just had major lower-level disturbances cruise through here at 45 mph with winds up to 80. 20 miles north of here they told folks that if a tornado arrived, they should get in their cellars. 20 minutes later it was 30 miles down the road threatening our capital city.

This is totally unique for Northern Vermont.

Here rain was coming sraight down and then wind (not at 80) was turmoiling all through the high trees in the yard. Soonish, it became quiet and the twilight bore much more gentle rain and a pervasive sense of softness and peace.

This happened just a half-hour before sunset so there were lots more gifts. The whole sky, which had been solid grey, turned bright orange and the sun gleamed underneath the cloud edges and danced and flickered through the wet trees. As it continued West toward Olympia, the colors changed into deeper oranges and darker cerise and plum hues, with faint pale blue-greens of clear sky accenting from across the lake.

My usual dealie is to think Kiota would love this and she would be out in the rain snapping pictures. But she'd already seen it, of course: much like this her icon, which she took in Idaho a year ago kiota.deviantart.com

But not this time, not in this twilight. Kiota took no pictures. Kiota WAS the pictures. The pounding rain and the angered wind and the violent air currents ---- and then the soft showers and the quietness and the peace. Since now she lives everywhere at the same time.

Early tomorrow I get on the plane for Boston. The last time I got on a plane I was flying out of Olympia and Kiota was staying. For only one more day, as it turned out. A day of violent, despairing storming that ended in softness and peaceful smiles.

Thursday in Boston I meet with the United Planet directors and drivers. I'm their living link to Kiota. In less than three weeks she would have gotten on another plane, in Israel, landed in Cambodia, and worked with a UP team in an orphanage to save kids from sexual abuse and neglect, and advance her photography career, and get college credit for her projects, and given talks back at school next fall to raise awareness that child sexual abuse is a global problem. Not just in her home town and in the Far East, but really everywhere.

So UP is stunned that I have been re-contributing the money I gave in March to make sure Ki could go do this and follow her dreams. Each of us wants to find out a lot more about one another. They are all excited and I am too.

One hundred miles north of here is Montreal, Canada. It's on an island. One of the bridges to the island DID get hit by a tornado tonight.... which turned over some semi-trucks and did some damage to houses. Here, the last plane out to New York has just taken off into the sunset after the storm had zoomed by. It was beautiful. Flight is possible in all kinds of times and through all kinds of violence ... with and without aircraft, in fact.

Of course there are aftereffects: lightning will be continuing out my window, past midnight. {Unless you didn't get the point the first time.} Exciting, powerful, transitory. Just as tornadoes of different kinds move through our lives.

My bridge is perfectly fine. I didn't build all of it by myself, of course.

And I am not the only living link to Kiota that UP has. I'm yours too.

Blessings Be.

that's lovely.
it reminds me a little of some of my favorite lyrics to a counting crows song:

if i could make it rain today
wash away this sunny day down to the gutter i would
just to get a change of pace
things are getting worse but i feel a lot better
and that's all that really matters to me.

hugs for you... e.
