Coen Hoogstraten is a sculptor here in den Haag who constructed a set of leaves to mount on a real tree. This was part of an art show which ran all last weekend, it involved more than 300 artists in 104 events, ten locations all over downtown; the events included music, modern dance, sculpture, performing art, and seminars.

Before Coen took his blank plastic leaves and coated them with phosphors, they looked like this:

Then with what he calls "gloie-lichter" --- glow-lamps --- taped to the back of each one, at night they looked like this:

And the whole environment looked like this, from a nearby balcony:

They glowed so brightly that you could see them from all over the plaza, which is about 60 to 70 meters wide. And attracted lots of crowds.

He saw that I was taking shots and asked me to come back and take more the second and final night. I did, with my tripod, and he asked if I'd shoot from the balcony of an adjacent building. Trying to balance five intensities of light in the same frame was quite the educational experience, let me tell you. But he loved them all, and then he put one of them on his website. On the first page, omg.

So this is awesome. It's the first time *ever* that I've been published on somebody else's site. And the tree is now destroyed, the electronics saved for another day. But it will never exactly be like this again. And I preserved it for him because he asked me, he doesn't have a good camera.

I took the shot that is now on his site when a powerful followspot, from WAY across the plaza, just in an instant happened to sweep him and a friend and supplied additional light. So of course he wanted to feature it!

It's in Dutch but the pics are universal.

Timneless, really. Playing with light and time. Which was what the whole festival weekend was about, gonna post some more directly!
