6 Estes Park

The icon is Kiota's pic of a piece of Montana skyline she took in 2007.

Here's another telephoto shot, this time through the pass toward a 13er or 14er. I realized that I was not taking a single shot up there this month without having Kiota's trip in mind. After growing up in Israel, with the topography there, and after my visits in August and September ...... the American West must have seemed a photo artist's paradise to Ki. We never talked about it, in fact her cameras stayed on her desk the whole time ... but we didn't need to. Her images spoke eloquently then and they do now: landscapes, nude girls, flowers, dead trees near her dorm... parts of her enduring vision and her gifts to us.

I love how grey and misty this one is -- it kind of conveys the majesty of the mountains, which sometimes can only be experienced by being there.

Dude, I have a mountain phobia. Seriously, they completely creep me out. Totally crazy, I know.

It's an amazing picture, yes, but makes me shiver.

ACK!! Mountain phobia??

You could wrap up in your parka and ski boots and pack in tins of Canned Heat.

What I see in them is timelessness and peace and a welcome home for wild animals, and I see the absences of everything that man has done to ruin the environment.

As long as I don't fall off one of them. Usually that means holding onto someone, tightly. Someone with two feet not four =)
