Anna, in her poem, refers to playing one of the arrangments of the Canon, for solo piano. There's one of these available online at Wiki, a sound clip performed by Lee Galloway.

As far as I know, everybody's still holding their pens up to the sky.

Some of the pens are in a little different form now.

Irony:

Pachelbel's Cannon in D was the first complex song I ever learned for piano.

It didn't hit me until now that she had written a poem about it.

This is also the first song I ever performed on the ice to in a competition. I won first place.

Great, Otter! Was this a figure skating competition? Ice dancing?

What impresses me is *when* she wrote the poem. Age 14 or earlier.

Through the years she always loved her fingers, talked about them often. On our last Friday she held her hands up toward the sun and you could see the gleam and glow through her hands and around the long bones; she twisted them into impossible positions and giggled.

I was at the lakeshore today, taking a ferry ride, seagulls were wheeling in the sun. Light blazed through their wing feathers and around their bodies: same effect. It was a very cool reminder.

Figure. I always preferred the freedom of figure skating to that of ice dancing.
